§ 14-19. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Advanced life support emergency medical services vehicle. A vehicle qualifies as an advanced life support emergency medical services vehicle if it:

    (1)

    Meets the requirements of a basic life support emergency medical services vehicle; and

    (2)

    Has sufficient equipment and supplies for providing intravenous therapy and endotracheal or esophageal intubation as set out in V.T.C.A., Health and Safety Code § 773.043.

    Basic life support emergency medical services vehicle. A vehicle that is used, designed or redesigned for transporting the sick or injured and that has sufficient equipment and supplies for providing basic life support as set out in V.T.C.A., Health and Safety Code § 773.042.

    Emergency medical services vehicle permit means a permit issued under this article.

    Mobile intensive care vehicle unit. A vehicle qualifies as a mobile intensive-care unit if it:

    (1)

    Meets the requirements of an advanced life support emergency medical services vehicle; and

    (2)

    Has sufficient equipment and supplies to provide cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, cardioversion, drug therapy and two-way radio communication as set out in V.T.C.A., Health and Safety Code § 773.044.

    Municipal authority means the city manager or his designee.

    Specialized emergency medical services vehicle. A vehicle, including a helicopter, boat, fixed wing aircraft or ground vehicle, qualifies as a specialized emergency medical services vehicle if it:

    (1)

    Is designed for transporting the sick or injured by air, water or ground transportation;

    (2)

    Is not a basic or advanced life support emergency medical services vehicle or a mobile intensive care unit; and

    (3)

    Has sufficient equipment and supplies to provide for the specialized needs of the patient transported as set out in V.T.C.A., Health and Safety Code § 773.045.

    Street means the entire width between the boundary line of every way publicly maintained when any part thereof is open to the use of the public for the purpose of vehicular travel.
